Green Ideas for the Holiday Season

With the Holiday season upon us it is time to start thinking about Green ideas for the Holiday season.  From green gift ideas to smart ways to conserve in the Christmas season.

Decorate with energy saving LED lights.  These will use up to 90% less energy than the wasteful traditional Christmas lights.

Try to include some organic and local foods in your Holiday meals.  Hit the Farmers Markets and the organic section at your local store.  Local foods not only support your area farmers, but also cut down on the wastes of preservation, storage and transportation to get the non-local food to you.

Recycle your Christmas tree.  Most cities now offer Christmas tree recycling programs.

Go for Green gifts for friends and family.  Look for environmentally friendly gifts that won't add landfill eventually or harm the ecosystem.  Buy friendly soaps, candles etc.  Look for energy efficient electronics.

Make your own wrapping paper.  Find colorful sections from your newspaper and use it for wrapping gifts this year.

Plan your shopping trips.  This will conserve gas, time and $$$ in the long run.
