Senator Baucus pushes bill to extend renewable energy programs
Senator Max Baucus of Montana, chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, is trying to get two programs aimed at boosting solar, wind and other renewable energy extended through the end of next year. Baucus included the extensions as part of larger tax legislation he introduced Thursday. The bill would extend a cash grant program for production of renewable energy. The program was created by the economic stimulus law and is set to expire at the end of this month. Renewable energy producers have been pushing hard for the extension, calling it key to the green industry's future growth and job creation. The legislation would also provide an additional $2.5 billion for the advanced manufacturing tax credit, a stimulus program for clean energy manufacturing projects.
